Mission Statement:
In 1854, David A. Sayre established Sayre School to provide an "education of the widest range and highest order." Today, we honor that mission by enabling students to become knowledgeable, productive, and contributing members of the community.

General Information:
Founded in 1854, Sayre School is an independent, co-educational, college-preparatory school serving students from ages three through twelfth grade. Sayre is dedicated to promoting intellectual, emotional, physical, social and aesthetic growth in each of its students while fostering enthusiasm for learning and discovery. The school strives to help each student realize his or her intrinsic worth, establish a moral frame-work, acquire self-discipline and develop critical thinking.
Students may experience success in academics, in the arts, in athletics, and in service to the school and the community. The curriculum strives to challenge its students, establishing basic skills while stretching intellect and encouraging creativity.

Respect among faculty and students is mutual, and the faculty is concerned about students as individuals. All members of the Sayre family - students, teachers, administrators, staff, parents, trustees and alumni - work together in a shared enterprise requiring the highest standards of commitment, effort and personal conduct. The faculty, from a variety of backgrounds and with diverse teaching styles, is excited about education and encouraged by an active professional development program.

The school takes advantage of its location in an historic but developing downtown area of Lexington, Kentucky. Its members honor tradition, but are not circumscribed by it; students are urged to confront past, present, and future issues. The school is aware of local, national, racial, cultural, and gender concerns and seeks to address them. Community service is an inherent element of the extracurricular program.

Woven through all of Sayre's endeavors is the objective of developing character. The school seeks to teach students from an early age the meaning and importance of honorable, responsible behavior. Recognizing that each student has his or her own contribution to make, the school endeavors to implement a program which facilitates the development of individual potential, enabling students to become knowledgeable, productive and ethical members of society.
